Mitotane (CAS 53-19-0) is an adrenolytic agent approved for human use (as Lysodren) and a standard treatment for inoperable adrenocortical carcinoma, acting by inhibiting adrenal steroid synthesis and damaging adrenocortical cells. In veterinary medicine it is mainly used to treat pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism in dogs.
