Formamide is a polar organic solvent and chemical intermediate used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty polymers. It is also used to make formic esters and hydrogen cyanide, and serves as a softener for paper, gums and animal or water-soluble glues.
