ProClin™ 300 is a broad-spectrum isothiazolinone preservative used to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, and yeast in aqueous products. It is commonly added at low ppm concentrations to in vitro diagnostic reagents, buffers, antibody and enzyme solutions, and other aqueous formulations to extend their shelf life. It is not a surface disinfectant or sterilant. This chemical is a mixture of the isothiazolinones 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (CMIT/MIT, also known as Kathon); the "300" in its name is a trade designation. It requires dilution before use and must be stored in a well-ventilated area at ambient temperatures. The product carries a "Danger" signal word due to its corrosive and sensitizing properties.
