Methyl Blue is a synthetic triarylmethane dye used primarily as a pH indicator and biological stain in microscopy and histology, for example to stain collagen in Mallory's and other trichrome stains and, as cotton blue, in lactophenol cotton blue for fungi. It changes color in acidic and alkaline conditions, making it useful for titrations and detecting specific substances in laboratory settings.
