Fast Red Violet LB salt is a stabilized diazonium salt (5-chloro-4-benzamido-2-methylbenzenediazonium chloride, zinc chloride double salt) that serves as an azoic diazo coupling component rather than a dye in its own right, forming a red-violet azo colour only when it couples with a naphthol. It is used as a chromogenic coupling reagent in enzyme histochemistry, for example with naphthol AS-MX or AS-BI phosphate to detect alkaline or acid phosphatase activity.
