Ethanesulfonyl chloride is a reactive organic compound used in sulfonation reactions and as a reagent in the synthesis of sulfonamides and other sulfonate derivatives. It also serves as an intermediate for low-cost, non-fluorinated sulfonyl-substituted imide and methide lithium salts and for pentafluoroethanesulfonyl fluoride used in fluorinated surfactants.
