Eriochrome cyanine R is a synthetic organic dye used primarily as a reagent and indicator for metal ions, especially for the spectrophotometric determination of aluminium, and also for iron(III), beryllium and zirconium; it is also used as a histological stain (Solochrome cyanine) for myelin and nuclei.
