Chitosan (800k–1200k) is a deacetylated derivative of chitin, widely used as a biodegradable polymer in wound healing, water treatment, food preservation, and bioplastics due to its antimicrobial, film-forming, and chelating properties. This high-molecular-weight chitosan (degree of deacetylation ≥75%) is supplied as a white to off-white powder with a viscosity range of 800–1200 mPa·s (1% w/v in 1% acetic acid). It is non-hazardous (no signal word), stable at ambient storage conditions, and soluble in dilute acids.
