Zinc fluoride is an inorganic compound primarily used as a flux in soldering and brazing, a catalyst in organic synthesis, and in the production of specialty glasses and ceramics. It appears as a white, hygroscopic powder that is only sparingly soluble in water (about 1.5 g/100 mL at 20 °C), far less soluble than the other zinc halides. Zinc fluoride (CAS 7783-49-5) has a molecular formula of ZnF₂, a density of approximately 4.84 g/cm³, and a melting point of 872°C. It is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin and is commonly classified by suppliers as Acute Tox. 4. It is stable under normal conditions but reacts with strong acids and alkalis.
