Dimethyl phthalate (DMP) is a phthalate ester commonly used as a plasticizer to increase flexibility in plastics, as a solvent in cellulosics, and in personal care products like perfumes and nail polishes. It also serves as a fixative in fragrances and an insect repellent. This clear, colorless liquid has a mild odor and is non-hazardous under normal conditions.
