(S)-6-Methoxy-alpha-methyl-2-naphthaleneacetic acid sodium salt, better known as naproxen sodium, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), non-narcotic analgesic and antipyretic that inhibits both cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It is used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient for relieving pain, inflammation and fever, for example in arthritis and dysmenorrhea, and in research as a reference cyclooxygenase inhibitor.
