1,4-Dioxane is a cyclic ether used primarily as a versatile solvent in laboratory and industrial applications. It dissolves cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, resins, oils, waxes and dyes, and has been used to stabilize chlorinated solvents such as 1,1,1-trichloroethane against attack by aluminum.
