2-Methyl-2,4-pentanediol (MPD) is a diol solvent and coupling agent widely used in industrial coatings, adhesives, and personal care formulations for its solvent properties and ability to improve compatibility between resin systems. It acts as a coalescent in latex paints, a solvent in inks, and a humectant in cosmetics. This clear, colorless liquid has a boiling point of 195–198°C, a density of 0.905–0.915 g/cm³, and is miscible with water, alcohols, and many organic solvents. It is non-hazardous under normal conditions, with no signal word classification.
